ABOUT

I’m Melanie (call me Mel) and I design timeless fibre products.

Thanks for stopping by to learn a little more about my work + why I do it.

I’m a messy perfectionist who enjoys detangling things (yarn, life, board game instructions).  When I’m not fondling fibres in the studio I work freelance in theatre and games. I passionately believe in the power of play to change lives. It’s why I share profits with “World at Play’, a charity bringing play to children in need. They do life-changing and life-enhancing work and it’s my greatest joy that our shared love of playing with fibre is contributing to their work.

World at Play are a small charity making a big impact. They give disadvantaged children access to opportunities to play and learn. Over the last 15 years they have delivered international projects providing play sessions in refugee camps, foster homes, youth clubs, schools and care-centres in Kosovo, Bosnia, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Turkey and Uganda. Their work has a lasting impact on the children who take part.

To read more, find opportunities to volunteer, or to make a donation of your own, please visit: worldatplay.org – otherwise, keep browsing and supporting my little studio, knowing that your craft is bringing smiles and joy to children in need. Thank you SO MUCH!

“My favourite project is a simple one you can do meditatively with a podcast or audiobook”

I find it tricky to guess what you might like to know about me, but in the interest of getting to know each other – I love snow, animals, mountains and organising things. Although I love cool colours and cold weather, I’m neither cool nor cold! I care deeply about things, it’s kinda what I’m known for.

I live in Derbyshire, England with my husband Joe and our adorably bonkers cocker spaniel Charlie. I spend my days juggling fun freelance projects + playing with yarn + pinching myself that this is how I make a living!

"When purchasing one of my patterns you can expect a comprehensive guide that gives you everything you need to finish the project. I love finding simple and effective techniques and sharing them with you as clearly as I can."

I adore adventures + quests + finding secret pathways + hideouts. I make a wicked roast dinner. I get the hiccups any time I drink something fizzy. I’m half Swiss which comes out in my love of mountains + efficiency. I find curiosity, passion, kindness + playfulness the most attractive qualities in people. I have very little patience for rudeness. I give a lot of compliments.

I learnt to crochet while my sister was pregnant. It was a wonderful way to channel my love and excitement and by the time my nephew arrived I’d made a menagerie of adorable amigurumi animals! My love of making has grown with each stitch and technique mastered and I’m now rarely seen without a ball of wool trailing behind me.

I design with timelessness in mind. I avoid trends in favour of styles that will last. I typically work with natural fibres, as I love that the earth gives us sustainable yarn from plants and animals.

Have a look around, I hope you’ll find something to tickle your creative taste buds!
